Recent research from the Annie E. Casey foundation has been released that details long term ramifications for students who do not achieve reading proficiency by third grade.
Reading failure has been linked to a high percentage of students who drop out of school, and adult incarceration.
Students who come from low-income homes or are English learners are at even greater risk of failing to achieve reading success. Based on this research, Tehama Reads campaign will focus on three areas of need:
- School readiness
- Summer Reading/literacy gap
- Support for struggling readers in Pre-K – 3rd grade classrooms
